Martha Karua, the Azimio presidential candidate’s running mate, has more or less confirmed the coalition will file a case to challenge William Ruto’s announcement as President-elect.
She spoke at a press briefing at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi on Wednesday when the Coalition met its elected leaders.
Also in attendance were presidential candidate Raila Odinga and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
“On the matter of elections,” she said,
“Ours is the victory that has been differed but is coming home. That is the message to everyone as we explore all the avenues, constitutional and legal, let everybody know victory is coming home.”
She also explained that Azimio commands the majority in the National Assembly from MPs elected.
“Our opponents have more Senators but by one,” she said.
Odinga added the meeting was about familiarization with elected MPs, Senators, and governors.
“We’ve given them a brief as well as where we are in regard to results of the presidential election and they have approved the steps that we have decided to take as the Azimio coalition,” Mr. Odinga said.
Mr Musyoka, a renowned lawyer, who’s been promised the Chief Minister position in an Azimio government, added all members of the coalition to remain united.
This is the second meeting of the coalition since the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati announced William Ruto as the president-elect.
On Tuesday, Mr Odinga led his team in protest of the election results.
Wednesday’s meeting happened concurrently with that of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by the President-elect at his residence place in Karen, Nairobi.
In his meeting, the President-elect said that 10 MPs who were elected as Independent candidates have elected to support him.
